The transition to mid game is usually done with a light vehicle rush. Most allied units can't match that kind of presence. The K-wagen is quick enough that it can decap a point and race over to a battle in time to play a part. Use the K-wagen to either scout ahead (I'm pretty sure it has a longer sight-range than most units) and alert you to the approaching enemies, or else send it off to disrupt map connections in other places. Volksgrenadiers set up green cover and Sturms wire off whatever else. When you've forced the enemy off, prepare to hold it, then. You should be trying to attack from any direction other than the front in this case. Use Sturmpioneers in conjunction with k-wagens to take cutoffs and other key locations that your opponent is going to want to have. OKW more or less gets Panzergrenadiers from the start of the game, so look to make aggressive plays in the early-game.
